Gadkari Launches FASTag Annual Pass for Private Vehicles: Pricing, Benefits & Key Details
In a major development aimed at making travel more efficient and affordable for Indian commuters, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced the launch of a FASTag-based Annual Pass for non-commercial private vehicles.
What is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid toll plan that allows private vehicle users to make 200 toll plaza crossings across National Highways and Expressways within a year for a flat fee of ₹3,000.
Minister Gadkari emphasized that this move will eliminate the need for frequent toll payments, reduce traffic congestion, and significantly lower travel costs. With the new pass, the average cost per trip drops from ₹50 to just ₹15, offering potential annual savings of up to ₹7,000.
“This will reduce the financial burden on travelers. People will be able to travel on a large scale with minimal cost,” said Gadkari.

Ease public grievances over multiple toll charges within short stretches
-
Reduce highway congestion
-
Promote digital, prepaid tolling with minimal human intervention
-
Enhance transparency and efficiency across India's highway infrastructure
Conclusion
The introduction of the FASTag Annual Pass marks a progressive step in toll policy reform, offering practical benefits to millions of private vehicle owners. With a sharp reduction in per-trip cost and streamlined travel experience, this initiative is expected to encourage more people to travel via India's growing highway network, while also decongesting toll plazas across the country.
